The association began as a small group of owners and developers of industrial parks in the eastern U.S. The NAIOP name once stood for National Association for Industrial and Office Parks, however in 2009, reflecting changes in membership, NAIOP dropped the words behind its acronym because they no longer reflected its membership composition.
