NAIOP Canada Chapters make a submission on the proposed Federal Vacant Land Tax

In mid-October, the Federal Government launched a consultation on the taxation of vacant lands, “with the goal of helping to meet its target of building 4 million new homes by 2031”.

Through the consultation, the Government is looking for input on the potential application and impacts of vacant land taxes, including, among other things, reasons that may help explain why some vacant land is not being actively developed. (More information can be found in these documents: Announcement; Consultation Document.)

The NAIOP Canada Chapters have made a written submission to the consultation. See it below:

Given the current political situation in Ottawa, it is not clear what the progress of this consultation will be. We will follow the process and continue to engage with the government and other parties as appropriate.
