2022 Development Challenge Finalists

From July to September, teams of NAIOP Greater Toronto Chapter Developing Leaders and students representing local universities created comprehensive development proposals for a high-profile Toronto development site: 720 Bay Street, owned by Dream.

On Wednesday, October 5th, the three finalist teams will go all out as they compete to win NAIOP’s 11th Annual Development Challenge.

These teams will present their development concepts before a panel of distinguished industry leaders. The panel will score the finalist teams development proposals based on objective criteria provided at the outset of the competition, plus the depth and quality of their live presentations.

Meet the three finalist teams:

Giraffe Group:

We are happy to have had the opportunity to meet the challenge of transforming a traditional office/residential combination into a project that betters the community, while balancing ESG feasibility against current market conditions. We are most excited to see the concepts that other groups designed for the subject site!

Congratulate Keegan, Samantha, Steven & Tommy on making the finals!

Hestia Capital:

Through this challenge, we’ve taken away the importance of making an impact at the forefront of development to ensure the resiliency of both the asset and the surrounding neighbourhood. We are excited to see the creativity of the other finalists and how they’ve created an impact through their development.

Congratulate Ahmed, Jenny, Saalik, Sullivan and Sydney on making the finals!

TerraVert Capital:

Our group has come away from this challenge with learning to think from an ESG focused lens and gaining new perspectives through collaboration with individuals from different functions in the industry. We’re most excited to present our vision for this site and hear feedback from industry professionals. We’re also excited to listen to other group’s proposals for this challenge and understand what they’ve incorporated into their vision.

Congratulate Connor, Dominic, Lois, Madeline, Noemi and Samantha on making the finals!
